Pre-Workshop

I believe listening is the beginning point for effective service. Therefore, each workshop is based upon conversation with representative(s) from churches served. The conversation can occur in one of two ways.

One option is to have a telephone interview in which we talk about needs, struggles, challenges, or opportunities facing the church and possibilities for a workshop. You can see more about the kinds of workshops available by going to the Coaching Mentorships link.

Chaos Questioning

A second option is to invite me to conduct a weekend interview through Chaos Questioning. The process is an interpersonal and church version of an MRI. I developed the process as a way of assessing each other quickly and deeply for the purpose of jointly developing a relevant and helpful workshop or relationship.

A Chaos Questioning weekend typically follows this pattern. 1) I want to know as little as possible about the church situation I am entering. 2) We schedule two to three sessions (depending on the size of the group) on Friday night and/or Saturday in which I lead the group through Chaos Questioning. 3) I teach a bible class and preach a sermon on Sunday. The class/sermon grows out of the picture of the church that emerges from the sessions. 4) I exit with no expectation of returning unless you do a follow-up debriefing session among Chaos Questioning participants and decide to contact me to negotiate a project designed for you.

Past Workshops

I have done workshops designed as an outreach to the community as well as workshops specifically designed for church leaders. Some workshop titles have been Getting Together: Marriage at Its Best (also done as The Two Shall Become One marriage seminar); Leading Together: Coordinating Alignment; Question Setting in Directional Leadership; Fighting for Peaceful Fighting; Healthy Maturity and Mature Sickness -  The Real Meaning of Sound Doctrine, Challenging Leadership; The Path of Freedom; The Heart of Leadership, and Focusing the Future.

Coaching Instruments

A wide range of tools are employed to provide what is most fitting for a particular church, situation, or leader. Some of the tools are as follows: The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator; DiSC; Firo-B and Firo-F; Conflict Dynamics Profile; Conflict Styles Survey; The Leadership Circle Profile; Natural Church Development; an adaptation of the Parish Profile Inventory; and custom designed survey instruments. Not all of these instruments would be used and other instruments beyond these are available.
